NYSBA Webinar: An Election Like No Other: Preparing for a Local Election Postponed Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic

Mara N. Harvey, Esq., was a speaker at a webinar sponsored by the New York State Bar Association’s Local and State Government Law Section, “An Election Like No Other: Preparing for a Local Election Postponed Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic” on Tuesday, June 2, 2020.  Village elections normally take place on one of several designated months.  The Governor’s Executive Orders postponed village elections previously scheduled to be held in March, April, May or June to September 15, 2020. School district votes were postponed until June 9, 2020 and special district elections were also postponed. Elected officials in the affected municipalities have continued to serve as holdovers. This webinar discussed the many legal issues that will need to be resolved in order for the postponed elections to be conducted.
