May 30, 2013 The Affordable Care Act: New Notice of Healthcare Exchange & Revised COBRA Notice
KEEPING YOU INFORMED…
The Affordable Care Act requires, among other things, the creation of healthcare exchanges or marketplaces through which individual health insurance policies may be purchased. Each employer is required to issue to its employees a notice of the availability of health care exchanges. As we previously notified you, the original deadline of March 1, 2013 was delayed. The United States Department of Labor (“the DOL”) recently set a firm deadline and issued guidance to explain employers’ obligations.
THIS MEMORANDUM IS MEANT TO ASSIST IN GENERAL UNDERSTANDING OF CURRENT LAW. IT IS NOT TO BE REGARDED AS LEGAL ADVICE. THOSE WITH PARTICULAR QUESTIONS SHOULD SEEK THE ADVICE OF COUNSEL.
