February 2008: Scott M. Karson, Esq., represented the Suffolk County Bar Association as its delegate to the American Bar Association House of Delegates at the ABA’s 2008 Midyear Meeting in Los Angeles. The 536-member House of Delegates, the ABA’s policy-making body, is comprised of delegates elected by ABA members in each state, as well as delegates from every state bar association and larger local bar associations (including the SCBA), and ABA sections and divisions. The House roster includes more than 40 delegates from the State of New York. At its meeting in Los Angeles, the House took up a number of significant issues involving the practice of law and the administration of justice. Among the highlights of the meeting was the unanimous adoption of a resolution co-sponsored by the New York State Bar Association and presented by NYSBA Kathryn Grant Madigan expressing support for and solidarity with the judges and lawyers of Pakistan, and calling upon President Musharraf of Pakistan to restore the country’s constitution, reinstate its supreme court and other judges to their respective courts and to release all judges and lawyers who have been wrongfully arrested and detained.

June 4, 2005: Richard Zuckerman presented a seminar entitled, "Managing the Progressively Disabled Employee," at the 5th Annual School Attorney Law Conference of the New York State School Boards Association to be held at the Sagamore Hotel, Bolton Landing, New York. He will discuss practical tips for dealing with disabled employees while avoiding potential legal pitfalls. Topics will include the role of pre-employment inquiries, medical examinations, leaves of absence, restricted duties and other accommodations, discipline and dismissal.

May 20, 2005: Richard Zuckerman will participate in a program entitled, "How Interest Arbitration Really Works" to be held at Doubletree Hotel, Tarrytown, NY. He will participate as a Management Advocate in a Panel Discussion regarding "The Decision Making Process: The Executive Session and The Award." This is a joint program sponsored by the State of NY Public Employment Relations Board, Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations and the NYS Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section.
May 2, 2005: Eugene Barnosky will receive an Award of Recognition for his exemplary service and commitment to the Suffolk County Bar Association as Chair of the Municipal Law Committee. This award will be presented to him at the Annual Meeting of the Suffolk County Bar Association to be held at the Hyatt Regency Wind Watch Hotel, Hauppauge, New York.

April 14, 2005: Richard Zuckerman was a panelist in a program entitled, "When the Employment Case Walks in the Door," a program designed to benefit all attorneys who receive inquiries regarding employment issues. This program was held at the Nassau County Bar Association, 15th & West Streets, Mineola, from 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm. This program was presented by the NCBA Labor & Employment Law Committee and the Workers' Compensation Committee.
March 19, 2005: SCBA President Scott M. Karson received an award of recognition "for his dedication in helping to find the causes and cures of breast cancer" at the annual Dinner Libations Without Pomposity Dinner sponsored by the Suffolk County Bar Association Workers' Compensation Committee to raise money for One in Nine: the Long Island Breast Cancer Action Coalition. The award was presented by Workers' Compensation Committee Co-Chair Dennis Chase, who served as emcee for the evening. The event, which was held at the Huntington Hilton, raised in excess of $10,000 for the Coalition.

Cohen, Esq. spoke at a NYS Bar Association seminar entitled, "Suing and Defending Municipalities: Law, Procedure and Ethics," on October 28, 2004 at the Holiday Inn Martinique, Broadway and W. 32nd Street, New York, NY. He will discuss commencing actions and pleadings, with particular emphasis on statutes of limitations, statutory prerequisites to suits under General Municipal Law, distinguishing Federal/State claims and Article 78's.

October 7, 2004: Richard K. Zuckerman spoke at the National School Boards Association Council of School Attorneys 2004 Advocacy Seminar at the Hyatt Regency, Savannah, Georgia. The topic of discussion will be "Communication in a Crisis," which will cover how to best communicate with print and broadcast media to ensure appropriate information is shared that doesn't cause the district more legal trouble.
October 3, 2004: Scott M. Karson was a Presiding Justice at the Twenty-Second Annual John S. Brainbridge Moot Court Competition held at Touro College Law Center.
June 2, 2004: Sharon Berlin discussed "Successful Ways to Handle Disciplinary Actions for Special Needs Students" at National Business Institute program held in the Holiday Inn in Plainview, New York. Sharon's presentation will include topics such as provision of services during periods of disciplinary removal, functional behavioral assessments and behavioral intervention plans, and protections for children not yet eligible for special education and related services.
June 1, 2004: Scott M. Karson was sworn in as the 96th President of the Suffolk County Bar Association. Karson has served as Chair of the Appellate Practice Committee, Judiciary Committee, Legislative Review Committee, and the Bench/Bar Committee as well as Managing Director of the Suffolk County Pro Bono Foundation and Vice President of the Suffolk County Academy of Law. His achievements have been recognized by the Association on nine different occasions, including receiving the Directors' Award as well as being honored twice with the President's Award, the highest distinguishment awarded by the Association. His tenure as President will continue a long tradition of Lamb & Barnosky leadership at the Association, as three of the firm's four founding partners have previously served as President.

May 5, 2004: Richard Zuckerman and Sharon Berlin gave a seminar "School Law in New York" at the National Business Institute seminar in Plainview, New York. The seminar will focus on limiting liability and avoiding legal problems facing today's schools. Rich and Sharon will discuss hot labor and employment issues in education, First Amendment concerns, student rights, differences between public and private schools, and strategies for negotiations, mediation and renegotiation.
April 29, 2004: Richard Zuckerman and Sharon Berlin took part in the "Public Sector Employment Law in New York State" program at the Wyndham Wind Watch Hotel in Hauppauge, New York. Richard, the program chair, will moderate the program and Sharon will discuss "Discipline in Unique Cases," such as those involving teachers and administrators as well as Village Law 8-804 and Town Law 155. Sharon will also make the same presentation on April 21 at the Holiday Inn Martinique on Broadway in NYC.
April 27, 2004: Sharon Berlin discussed "Strategies to Avoid the Most Common School District Special Education Mistakes" at a seminar focusing on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act at the Crowne Plaza in White Plains, New York. The seminar is designed for special education teachers and directors, psychologists, administrators, principals, teachers, guidance counselors, social workers, school board members, and attorneys.
April 19, 2004: Scott Karson, President-elect of the Suffolk County Bar Association, was honored with the Partner in Justice Award by the Nassau/Suffolk Law Services Committee. This award is designed to highlight distinguished individuals who have worked towards improving access to the justice system on Long Island. Scott will be honored and presented with the award at the Sixth Annual Commitment to Justice Dinner to be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at Carlyle on the Green at Bethpage State Park.

Richard K. Zuckerman is a graduate of the Columbia University School of Law, where he served as Director of the First Year Moot Court program. He graduated summa cum laude from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and received the William J. Sullivan Award, the University's most prestigious academic and service award. Rich co-authored (with Sharon Berlin) an article entitled "Romance in the Workplace: Employers Can Make Rules if They Serve Legitimate Needs," which appeared in the New York State Bar Journal. Richard served on the Editorial Board for the treatise, "Discipline and Discharge in Arbitration," published by the American Bar Association in 1998. He is also a contributor to the NYS Bar Association's treatise entitled Public Sector Labor and Employment Law. He has frequently lectured at programs sponsored by the NYS Bar Association and the Nassau and Suffolk Academies of Law.
Sharon N. Berlin is an honors graduate of Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations. She also graduated with honors from the George Washington University National Law Center, where she was Managing Editor of the Journal of International Law and Economics. She co-authored (with Rich Zuckerman) an article entitled "Romance in the Workplace: To What Extent Can Employers Dictate the Rules?," which appeared in the New York State Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section Newsletter. Sharon also edited a chapter of an American Bar Association treatise, Discipline & Discharge in Arbitration, published in 1998. She is a contributor to the NYS Bar Association's treatise entitled Public Sector Labor and Employment Law. She has lectured at programs sponsored by the New York State Bar Association, the Nassau/Suffolk Academy of Law, and the Mid-Hudson Valley Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management. Sharon is chair of the Nassau County Bar Association's Education Law Committee. Sharon is admitted to the bar in Connecticut, as well as in New York.
April 14, 2004: Richard Zuckerman presented a seminar entitled "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Civil Service Law but were too Confused to Ask" at the Nassau Academy of Law. Topics of discussion included the Civil Service Commission and the appointment process, transfers, promotions, layoffs, disciplinary proceedings, leave issues, Veteran/Exempt Volunteer Firefighter benefits and ethical considerations.
March 31, 2004: Scott Karson was honored as one of Long Island's Outstanding Pro Bono Attorneys for 2004 at the Annual Goods & Services Auction presented at Touro Law Center.
March 29, 2004: The firm will be a sponsor of Public Affairs Day 2004 of the National Association of Women Business Owners ("NAWBO") at the Crest Hollow Country Club at 8:30 a.m. Sharon Berlin, as Chair of NAWBO's Legislative and Public Affairs Committee, will be introducing Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. Paul Lamb will sit on the dais with Senator Clinton.
February 20, 2004: Gene Barnosky appeared on News12 Long Island to discuss the class action lawsuit commenced by a Washington, D.C. advocacy group against 13 Long Island school districts asserting violation of the rights of homeless children to attend public schools.
January 26, 2004: Eugene R. Barnosky gave a presentation to the Municipal Law Section of the New York State Bar Association at their annual meeting on January 26, 2004 on the subject of "Non-Traditional Revenue Opportunities for Public Entities".
January 2004: Mara N. Harvey was admitted to practice as an attorney and counselor at law in the courts of New York State by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, Second Judicial Department, in Brooklyn, New York. Ms. Harvey is working in the firm's trusts and estates and municipal departments.
